Winter Wheat and Fungicide Application Fungicides are generally used to protect the flag leaf in winter wheat. If two nodes are visible, and a third node detectable then, the next leaf out will be the flag leaf. Several fungicides are labeled for use on winter wheat. Several brands of Mancozebs and Propiconzole, Quadris, Headline, Stratego and Bayleton 50DF, and copper products are available. Each product has particular stages of growth labeled for application, however, all are labeled for application during flag leaf emergence for protection against foliar disease. Evaluate yield potential before fungicide application. Generally, at least a 40 bushel potential yield should exist before fungicide use pays on winter wheat.
