Hints to Evaluate Corn Population

Corn population is too low, if:

1. Ear tips are filled.

2. Less than 3% of plants are barren (no ears).

3. Plants are suckering or developing second ears excessively.

4. Final ear weight is over one-half pound.

Corn population is too high, if :

1. Ears are showing more than one inch at tip not filling.

2. Over 5 % of plants are barren.

3. Ears are less than one-quarter pound.
