Planting Information
ROTATION
Avoid volunteer small grains. Do not follow mustard, rapeseed or sunflower - volunteer problems. Following buckwheat, flax, oats, wheat and barley can be used. Herbicides will control volunteer buckwheat in these crops.
SEEDING DATE
Seed May 25 - June 20. Early (before June 5) is better. Buckwheat is very sensitive to frost.
SEEDING RATE
40-55 lbs./A. 16-20 plants per square foot. 800,000 per acre. Varieties vary in seed size so adjust lbs/acre seeding rate accordingly.
Plant 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" deep.
SEED TREATMENT
Little work has been done. Present information indicates seed treatment is not necessary.
